Promotes Teen Safety
Norma's Pledge Campaign Underway
December
5, 2010
The
City of Moreno Valley has officially launched a teen safety
program, Normas Pledge-Never Again, named
in memory of 17-year-old Norma Lopez who was abducted and
murdered this past summer. The campaign goal is to promote
safety among local high school teens and college students
by having them take "Norma's Pledge". The pledge
is a three-part promise to follow the following safety measures:
- I
dont walk alone
- I
look around
- I
share info with others
Local
students that sign a pledge card with these reminders will
receive a Normas Pledge-Never Again button
with Normas photo and a bracelet. These pledge items
are being distributed through the high school Parent/Teacher
associations (PTA) or Student Activity Assistance and were
paid for by community funds from donors including Supervisor
Marion Ashley and Waste Management, Inc.
Members
of the The Normas Pledge-Never Again committee
include Mayor Bonnie Flickinger, community members Patricia
Holguin from the Social Solidarity Committee of St. Christophers
Church and LaDonna Jempson, 23rd District Director of PTA.

Moreno
Valley Unified School District will be conducting a public
information meeting on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 6:00
p.m. in the Palm Middle School Multi-Purpose Room to provide
the public information about the proposed new high school.
Items to be discussed include the proposed sites and design
for the district's fifth high school. Palm
Middle School is located at 11900 Slawson Ave., Moreno Valley,
CA.
The
proposed project includes the development of a new high
school, approximately 220,000 square feet, and housing 96
classrooms, which will accommodate a maximum of 2,600 students.
The school will require approximately 220 full-time faculty
and staff members to staff the proposed school.

a lab classroom building; a gymnasium building; an outdoor
pool; a physical education building; and a multipurpose
building. The school campus would also include a football
